Sayings of Prophet Muhammad

Attributes of Believing Muslims

Awliya: Friends of Allah (The Glorified and the Exalted)
Sayyidina 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) as saying, "Among Allah's servants there are people who are neither peophets nor martyrs, whose position in relation to Allah will be an object of desire by the prophets and martrys on the day of resurrection." The people said, "Messenger of Allah, tell us who they are," and he replied, "They are people who have loved one another by reason of Allah's spirit, and were giving gifts to one another without being related or having (common) property. I swear by Allah that their faces will be light and that they will be placed upon light, neither fearing when men fear nor grieving when men grieve." And he recited this verse, "The friends of Allah will have no fear and will not grieve." (Qur'an, 10:62) (Abu Dawud)

Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) related that the Holy Prophet (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said: Allah (The Glorified and the Exalted) says, "Whoever is inimical to one whom I befriend, is at war with Me. When a servant of Mine approches Me through the meduim of that which I like best, out of what I have declared obligatory for him, and continues to advance towards Me through optional prayers (Nawafil), then I begin to love him. When I make him My beloved, I become his ears to hear, and his eyes to see and his hands to grasp, and his feet to walk. When he asks Me, I grant him and when he seeks My protection I protect him. (Bukhari) (Hadith Qudsi)

Narrated Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him): Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "If Allah loves a person (The Glorified and the Exalted). He calls Hadrat Jibril (peace be upon him) saying: "Allah loves so and so. O Jibril love him. So Jibril (peace be upon him) would love him and then would make an announcement in the Heavens: "Allah loves so and so therefore you should love him also. So all the dwellers of the Heavens would love him and then he is granted the pleasure of the people on the earth." (Bukhari)

Hadrat Asma' daughter of Yazid said that she heard Allah's Aspostle (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) say, "Shall I not tell you who are the best among you?" and when they replied, "Certainly, Messenger of Allah, he said, "The best of you are those who when seen are a means of Allah being brought to mind." (Ibn Majah)

Qualities of Believers (sifat of Mu'mineen)
Hadrat Abu Umama (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "If anyones loves for Allah's sake, gives for Allah's sake and withholds for Allah's sake, he will have perfected faith." (Abu Dawud)

Hadrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) said, "The Muslim is he from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe; and the believer is he whom men trust with their lives and their property." (Tirmidhi and an-Nasai)

It has been narrated on the authority of Jabir bin 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I heard Allah's Messenger (may Allah's blessings and peace be upon him) say: A group of people from my Umma will continue to fight in defence of truth and remain triumphant until the Day of Judgement. (Muslim)
